Large motors - -
What you should know about starting them

All across the Dakota Valley Electric service area, we see large grain handling systems going up on the farms we serve.  Progress never looked so good.

But this progress is not without its growing pains.

Because ANY motor, when it is in startup mode, draws five to seven times as much voltage as it does when it is in operating mode, we have to be concerned about large motors and their capacity for causing voltage problems on the Dakota Valley distribution system.
